Dear colleague,
I am writing this to you regarding tomorrow’s Transplant Immunology Journal club meeting.
We are going to discuss results of kidney transplantation when transplantation is done in the presence of low MFI in DSA. There is a paper published in journal ‘Transplant Immunology’ from Thailand studying and evaluating graft outcomes done during 14 years. The number of patients is small (only 36) but the subject is if interest to us.
Dr. Anil Tarigopula, Senior Pathologist and Head Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory of our hospital will talk to us about this paper.
I feel it will be useful to come prepared with the following knowledge for this discussion
· How does the Luminex system work?
· What exactly is SAB?
· What is DSA?
· What is mean florescence intensity?
· How is mean florescence intensity calculated?
· How does one decide what is low and what is high MFI?
· Is there any universally agreed cut off levels!?
· Does the mean florescence intensity correlate with the amount of antibody?
It may not be possible to get a very clear idea of these things without immunologist’s help but an introductory knowledge to make it easy for us to understand the explanations of immunologist will make attending the meeting useful.
Thanking you,
With regards,
Dr. K.S Ramalingam, M.D.,
Chief Nephrologis
