Dr. K.S. Ramalingam is a distinguished nephrologist and one of the pioneering figures in kidney care in Tamil Nadu, with over four decades of experience in the healthcare sector. He completed his medical education at Stanley Medical College, Chennai, and pursued his specialisation in Nephrology at Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai. In 1978,
Dr. Ramalingam became the first nephrologist to begin clinical practice in Coimbatore, where he played a transformative role in introducing dialysis and kidney transplantation to the region. His early contributions made specialised renal care accessible to thousands of patients from Western Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Kerala, including children and underserved populations suffering from acute renal conditions.
Dr. Ramalingam has been involved in over 4,000 kidney transplants, consistently achieving excellent outcomes. He has introduced advanced and progressive procedures such as steroid-free and ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation, setting new standards in renal care.
He is a past President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Coimbatore, and has served as Convenor of the Healthcare Panel for the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Coimbatore. In recognition of his lifelong dedication to the field of medicine, he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in 2012.
Together with his wife, Dr. Jansi Ramalingam, a highly regarded Nephro-pathologist, he has also established Med serve Medical Diagnostic Laboratory—a facility that introduced several first-of-its-kind diagnostic services for kidney diseases in the region.
Dr. Jansi Ramalingam is a distinguished renal pathologist with over 30 years of experience in the field. She currently serves as the Chief Pathologist and Director of Laboratories at CKC where she has been a pivotal figure in the development and advancement of renal pathology and diagnostic services since 1991. Dr. Ramalingam completed her MBBS from Thanjavur Medical College in 1980 and obtained her MD in Pathology from Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai, in 1986. She pursued specialised training in renal pathology under Dr. Melvin Schwartz at Rush Presbyterian Hospital, Chicago, and further enhanced her expertise in tissue typing and crossmatching at Madurai Kamaraj University.
As a practicing renal pathologist, she reports approximately 1,250 native and transplant renal biopsies annually, in addition to overseeing the overall administration of the diagnostic laboratory. Her leadership has ensured the development of robust diagnostic capabilities, including transplant immunology and therapeutic drug monitoring, supporting the hospital’s transplant programme with reliable and precise laboratory data.
From 1989 to 1991, Dr. Jansi served as Assistant Professor of Pathology at PSG Institute of Medical Sciences, Coimbatore, where she contributed to medical education and clinical training. She has also mentored upcoming pathologists in the subspecialty of renal pathology, fostering future expertise in this critical domain.
Looking ahead, Dr. Jansi plans to further strengthen the scope of renal pathology at CKC by introducing electron microscopy and expanding services into the domain of liver transplant pathology. With liver transplants becoming increasingly common in Coimbatore, she intends to undergo specialised training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre under the mentorship of Prof. Paramjeet Randhawa, with the goal of meeting emerging diagnostic needs in this evolving field.
In addition to its medical team, CKCRL is proud to employ approximately 240 support staff who play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the hospital. The following 13 provides a detailed breakdown of support staff across various departments.
